A visual acuity suite is more than a digital eye chart. It is the complete software layer for vision testing in a modern practice: the acuity charts themselves, the specialty and binocular tests around them, the calibration that makes a consumer screen clinically trustworthy, the controls that fit a real exam workflow, and the patient-facing polish — branding, waiting room content, education — that a chart appliance never touches.

The Ocular Edge Visual Acuity Suite delivers all of it as software. There is no dedicated panel to buy and no per-lane Windows PC to maintain: any Smart TV, monitor, or tablet with a web browser becomes a calibrated exam lane, paired to your practice with a 6-digit code. Practices replace dealer-quoted chart hardware that commonly sells for $2,600–$4,200 per lane with published pricing that starts at $24.99 per lane per month — or $449 once for a lifetime license.

Twenty charts and tests, in every plan.

The suite ships with all 20 chart types and tests, with no tiers and no per-test add-on fees: Sloan Letters, Numbers, LogMAR/ETDRS, Tumbling E, Landolt C, HOTV, Kids Animals, Inverse B&W, Color Vision, Astigmatism Dial, Duochrome, Contrast Sensitivity, Fixation Dot, Worth 4 Dot, Amsler Grid, Cross Cylinder, Coincidence, G/R Balance, Schober, and Traffic Lights. Acuity charts support randomization — patients can't memorize a chart that never repeats — plus single-optotype presentation for amblyopia work, crowded and column modes, and pediatric flows built on HOTV matching and picture optotypes.

Every optotype is rendered as geometric vector paths rather than fonts, following the letter-geometry conventions of the ETDRS protocol and the ISO 8596 Landolt ring. That means a Sloan letter has identical proportions on a Fire TV stick, a Samsung panel, and a laptop — no font substitution, no anti-aliasing surprises.

Calibration you can check with a ruler.

Screen-based acuity testing is only as good as its calibration, so the suite never trusts a display's self-reported dimensions. During setup, staff match an on-screen overlay to a physical ruler, giving the software the true pixels-per-millimeter of that exact panel. Combined with the lane's measured testing distance, letter sizing follows the clinical MAR formula — at 20 feet, a 20/20 letter measures exactly 8.87 mm and a 20/200 letter 88.7 mm, verifiable on your own screen with the same ruler. An automated suite of 41 clinical accuracy tests validates the sizing math on every release, and LogMAR/ETDRS charts score per-letter at −0.02 logMAR following the ETDRS standard.

Built for how exams actually run.

The exam screen is driven from the phoropter stool: plug a FLIRC USB adapter into the display and any infrared remote controls the lane — number keys launch chart types, arrows walk the acuity lines, one key flips OD/OS, another toggles single-letter mode. Lanes work offline once loaded, so a dropped connection never interrupts a patient. Native apps cover Amazon Fire TV today with Samsung TV and Android in development, and everything else runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.

Because the suite is software on every screen you own, it extends past the exam lane.
