Getting Started
Box to first exam in five steps.
Under ten minutes, no IT department. The panels below walk the exact flow — dashboard steps on the light screens, TV steps on the dark ones.
Install the app
Download from your device’s app store, or open the web app in any modern browser.
Fire TV installs from the Amazon Appstore and launches in fullscreen kiosk mode automatically. On anything else, the browser is the install — no media files, no USB sticks.
Create an account
Sign up at the admin dashboard, upload your logo, and create your first exam lane.
The 3-day trial starts the moment you sign up — no credit card. Pick your brand colors and chart preferences once; every screen you pair inherits them.
Enter the activation code
Each exam lane generates a unique 6-digit code. Type it on the device to pair it.
Open the app on the TV or tablet and enter the code from your dashboard. The device pairs instantly and pulls your branding, chart settings, and lane configuration.
Calibrate the screen
Hold a ruler or credit card against the screen and drag the overlay to match.
That single measurement gives the exact pixels-per-millimeter of your screen — browser-reported DPI is never trusted. Under two minutes, once per screen.
Start testing
Pick a chart and go. The display is now a clinical-grade acuity testing station.
All 20 chart types and tests — Sloan, ETDRS, contrast sensitivity, Tumbling E, pediatric charts and more — driven by keyboard, remote, or touch.
System Requirements
If it's from this decade, it runs.
Remote Control
Run the whole exam from your chair.
Plug a FLIRC USB adapter into the display and any IR remote becomes the exam controller — number keys launch charts, arrows walk the acuity lines, and you never leave the phoropter.
- Works with any IR remote via FLIRC USB
- Number keys 1–9 launch charts instantly
- Arrow keys navigate acuity lines
- No Bluetooth pairing required
- One-time setup, works forever
PWA Installation
Install straight from the browser.
No app store needed — three taps turn your lane link into a fullscreen, native-like app on any device.
Chrome / Edge — Desktop
- Navigate to your Ocular Edge lane URL
- Click the install icon in the address bar (or the three-dot menu)
- Click “Install” in the confirmation dialog
- The app opens in its own window — no browser chrome
Chrome — Android
- Open your lane URL in Chrome
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right
- Tap “Add to Home Screen” or “Install app”
- The app icon appears on your home screen
Safari — iPhone / iPad
- Open your lane URL in Safari (not Chrome)
- Tap the Share button (square with arrow)
- Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”
- Tap “Add” — it launches fullscreen like a native app
For exam room screens that should always be on, set the PWA to launch at startup: add the shortcut to the Startup folder on Windows, Login Items on macOS, or enable kiosk mode on ChromeOS.
Pick a screen.
Any screen.
Create your free account, grab the activation code, and the TV you already own becomes an exam lane before your next patient checks in.
